Introduction
Hey I'm Keya! I recently graduated from The University of Utah with a Bachelors of Science in Sports Management and a minor in Nutrition. I'm currently interning for the Utah Warriors Rugby team in Operations.
I plan on attending law school to obtain my J.D. in Sports Law and want to gain my agent certifications. My ultimate goal is to be a sports agent and attorney for either rugby or soccer players globally and want to forge a path for more women of color to work in sports business.
About Me
My experience includes interning with the University of Utah Utes football team in equipment and their athletics department in nutrition and with the virtual sports coaching platform Givego in athlete and influencer relations and marketing. I was a participant in Living Sport, a study abroad externship opportunity in Athens, where I worked the 2022 Oceanman Greece open water swimming competition. I also have taken part in US Soccer & Deloitte's 2022 She Believes Summit for Women in Sports. I currently serve as the operations intern for the Utah Warriors Major League Rugby team.
Prior to a career in sports, I was a competitive ballerina for 16 years, where I trained across the country at prestigious ballet companies and schools. I became passionate about working with athletes as I understand the mindset of training daily, dedicating yourself to your sport, and working in a competitive industry. I strive to be at the forefront of ethical and inclusive athlete representation.

Professional Accomplishments
During my internship with the Utah Warriors, I wanted to gain a comprehensive understanding of rugby throughout the season. I also wanted to form a deeper knowledge of the inner workings of how professional sports team functions from an operations perspective. This is can be seen in my Game Analysis and Game Run Sheet (see below). I also had the goal of making professional connections and setting myself up for post-grad job opportunities, whether at the Utah Warriors or another organization. I have done this by talking to my General Manager about job opportunities within the MLR, and have had multiple introductions and informational coffees with people in the sports industry.
I wanted to demonstrate my professionalism and ability to succeed within sports management during my time with the team and I was able to accomplish this through building an outstanding reputation with the players and staff. This is shown in my ability to work with Jurie Van Vuuren one on one to create a mock brand pitch for Stance (see below). To successfully complete this internship, the Utah Warriors wanted me to create a compassion-based season long project that demonstrates the pillars of the team. I worked on developing educational slide decks on topics that would benefit the Selects players and educate them on tools to improve their physical and mental health, and their career (see below).
